[comp.dcom.modems] T.2500 /Hayes Ultra & USR Dual Standard info

guerra@spocom.guild.org (Robert Guerra) (06/07/91)

I am looking into purchasing a a high speed modem towards the end of the
summer, and i'm not quite sure which is best. Could someone tell me what
are the +/- of the following (add others if you like)

.....Hayes Ultra
     Telebit T2500
     US Robitics Dual Standard

If possible the modem should have v.32,v.32bis,v.42 ,v.42bis and have MNP
at lower speeds (ie.2400).

The modem will be used in Canada and perhaps in europe (spain).

Modem will be used for the following:

        - connecting to uucp/unix sites for email & perhaps news
        - conencting to local area bbs's

        - international calls (spain<--> canada)

Question:

Are the above modems rated for 50/60 cycles?
Will a modem designed for north america work in europe?
(loaded question) Should i get HST or PEP (or can i get both?)

....any suggestions, hints, and other help appreciates

(please email )
