I would liket to find out if anyone knows the address and phone number of Datatronics? I purchase a modem from Dick Smith's Electronics here in San Jose, Cal. Dick Smith's was in the United States for a while before they returned to Australia. The product that I have is a Datatronics D2400 external modem. Thank you, WB6STW Dan Curry

I found only their phone number in Taipei: 886-2-782-0002, and fax 886-2-782-0305. But I strongly advice against Datatronics. At least their 2400CM model. Here is the horror story: We bought a large amount of this stuff because it was the bestprice offer for us. We were not too special in requrements, because we knew pretty well, that any modem would require some "fine tuning" to be able to work in this country. But we immediately run into difficulties: when the data buffer mode (\N0) or MNP+fall back mode (\N3) was ennabled and connection was w/o MNP - the damn thing didn't pass ^P, which is essential for UUCP. We complained loud, and Datatronics provided us with a ROM upgrade, that solved this problem (though we chose to rewrite ROMs by ourselves, because we couldn't want to wait for the chips to arrive). Now the modems sort of work, but: 1) Sometimes in the middle of MNP session the damn thing says "CONNECT 2400" and begins dumping garbage to the computer. Datatronics keeps silence on the matter. 2) Sometimes (in fact most of the time) the throughput falls back from decent 270-280 CPS (I mean uucp) to miserable 160 CPS and lower. Datatronics is silent on this matter too. BTW, this device is based on Sierra modem chipset (SC11006/SC11061). I must say there were positive points in this story - we learned a lot of things about modems and phone network while kicking shit out of the device :-)
