I am looking for a software package that will do the following:
- Allow information to be collected via com port 1 (a serial
connection) and saved (buffered) in a disk file. The information
will come in sometime between 11pm-1am daily. In the past, this
data has always been dumped to a printer.
- The software must then reconfigure itself to accept calls via
modem, in com port 2, the remainder of the day. The caller
will then collect the data and make statistical summaries by
running programs remotely that are on the same hard disk as the
data.
- The transfer from collect data mode to call up mode should be
done automatically, based on the current time of day.
Two packages have been suggested to handle this task: CoSession and
CarbonCopy. I have been told that it is not possible for a program
to reconfigure itself in the necessary way, but I have also been told
that it can be done!!
I am using an IBM/XT with 512KB Ram and a 20MB (or so) fixed disk.
I'd like to hear from someone who has experience with CarbonCopy
or CoSession, and anyone who knows of another product that will
successfully perform the needed functions. E-Mail only, please.
