Is it possible to use any of the follows modems? on a public
dialup phone line? I'm hoping to be able to purchase one of
the following to replace an old 1200 baud modem at home (for
dialing in to work from a pc).

The modems on the receiving end a hayes compatable 2400 baud.

Paradyne Challenger 2400
Paradyne MPX 4800
Paradyne up9600rp (master)
Com-link II
