[comp.dcom.modems] V23 on T2500

peter@micromuse.co.uk (Peter Galbavy) (06/12/91)

Help: I am using a T2500, and have to use V23 to access British
Telecoms 'Phonebase` - on-line white pages. Can the T2500 do the baud
rate splitting internally, as I cannot have a split baud RS232 port. I
tried ATS50=5, but this just gives me an ERROR.

Any help greatly appreciated. Wouldn't you expect BT, the monoploy
phone company in the UK (the other fish do not count - yet) can't put
anything but V23 up ?

Cheers all,

The U.S. version doesn't support V.23, but the U.K. one does. V.23 isn't
a very important modulation in the States.

The U.K. modem uses an RS232 speed of 1200 in both directions, while
the modem transmits at 75 bps and receives at 1200 bps. No need for
a special port in your computer...

Living in Canada and dealing almost exclusively with North American
modems, I've never had the fun of using one of these... do V.23 modems in
general use handshaking to prevent modem buffer overrun, or do the
manufacturers simply hope that no one will try an ASCII upload or streaming
protocol transmit over these devices?
