I am evaluating V.32/V.42bis modems for use in our campus dialup services, and am seriously considering the Microcom QX/4232hs. I'd appreciate hearing about any good or bad experiences that anyone has had with this modem. In particular, I've heard that the modem gets extremely hot. We plan to run these modems constantly, 24 hours a day. Does the excessive heat generation pose any potential long-term reliablilty problems (the unit comes with only a one year warranty, as opposed to 2 years offered by many others)? My second choice is the Penril Alliance V.32. I have never read anything about this modem, so I don't know how it stacks up to the competition. Any info would be appreciated... -- Dave Rubin Polytechnic University drubin@prism.poly.edu
