I want to buy my brother a 2400 baud modem as a present, so he can call my BBS system (using a UUCP program such as FSUUCP) instead of sending me faxes. It would be a major improvement in convenience, cost, and so on. Problem is, he lives in Australia. I have no idea what wiring, signalling, and so on they use down under. I know computer equipment costs a bomb down there, so I'd rather get him something in the US, but that's probably not going to be cool with Telecom Australia. So, what do I do? Suggestions? Also, are there any public access UNIX systems down there like the one I run up here?
