I suppose in the strictest sense I'm following up my own article(s) but it's more than that. First off thanks a whole grundle to everyone who answered my questions about whether -0dBm was louder than -15dBm. I'm glad I really knew but it was a warm fuzzy to be certain. If I haven't ack'ed your reply, the mail didn't work or hasn't arrived, nonetheless, THANKS!!! Here's the cellular status with a universal sample of one cellular phone and a T-1600 modem. Most everyone suggested that I not be shy about dropping modem power output level below -15dBm. They are right. On an outdial I couldn't tell the difference between -9dBm and -15dBm. If you recall, however, I was unable to get an indial to work at all. Tonight in a fit of adventure I tacked together a hay wire lash up of resistors for the T-1600 totalling 57.3K ohms. I got about the same results as I had with other outdial experiments but eureka! a successful indial! We only did a couple, but it worked and it hadn't until I smooshed the T-1600 output power level through the floor. My success was achieved at 57.3K ohms, TFM stops at 37.4K. The modem on the other end is a USR HST, the main neighbor (who doesn't have as well developed sense of adventure :-) is a Trailblazer Plus. I still think that we're on to something and I think that more folks are going to be using cellular stuff if it (as it does for me) makes economic sense. -- Bill Kennedy uucp {att,cs.utexas.edu,pyramid!daver}!ssbn.wlk.com!bill internet bill@ssbn.WLK.COM or ssbn!bill@attmail.COM
