We're looking for a small modem that will plug into a port of a portable PC running DOS and that will take its power from the PC. This will be used by people with portables to talk to a Unix box. We've seen two of them: one from Practical Peripherals and one from Hayes. Apparently, neither of them does error correcting in the modem. (MNP and all that.) Well, the phone lines we'll be using can be awful, so this won't do. Does anyone have any suggestions? We can pretty much do what we want on the Unix side, but the PC users are *not* computer people and may well be resistant to anything on their end that smacks of intellectual effort. I do not read this newsgroup, so I'd appreciate it if you'd send your replies via e-mail. If there is any interest I will post a summary to this newsgroup. Thanks.
