frohne@pur-ee.UUCP (Henry R Frohne) (09/20/87)

Does anyone know of a public domain Tektronix 4010 or 4014 terminal
emulator for the IBM PC? If so could you please send me a note via e-mail.
My usenet address is: ...!ihnp4!pur-ee!frohne
	Thanks for the help!

Oh how nice it would be! Especially if such a beast existed under
Microport 2.2 Unix.

I'm offering this to the net as there seems to be quite an interest in this.

Columbia University offers a version of Kermit for IBM-PCompatible computers
which features full vt100 support, as well as TEK4010 (and maybe 4014)
terminal emulation. It supports the CGA, EGA, Hercules and Olivetti (AT&T)
graphics cards.

If you have BITNET access, you can get this file through the KERMIT file
server at Columbia. The command I give on our VMS machine is:

  SEND/REMOTE CUVMA KERMSRV SEND MSTIBT.*

If you also want the manual for MS-DOS kermit, give your version of
the following command:

  SEND/REMOTE CUVMA KERMSRV SEND MSKERM.DOC

VT100 Emulation:
This program was based on version 2.29 (plain vanilla 2.29, not 2.29a ...)
so it has some of the same bugs which 2.29 did. Even so, it passes most of
the tests in the VTTEST program posted on the net a few months ago. It works
well enough to run the EDT editor (which does some really screwy things to
some emulators).

TEK4010 Emulation:
I personally use it with Tell-A-Graf and SAS/GRAPH with no problems.
Occasionally the emulator leaves black lines on the screen when the cursor
is supposed to move without drawing, but this is intermittent. It supposedly
supports the thumbwheel cursors, but I have not tested this. It seems to
simulate a VT640 terminal (a VT100 with Retrographics) fine for my purposes.

If there is enough interest, I will post the files on the net. If not, I
can send these to people individually.

Hope this helps . . .
