[comp.terminals] hp terminals - 2622a/2623a

carl@eeg.UUCP (Carl Hallberg) (03/28/89)

Hello out there. A few days ago, I was delighted to find that
a bunch of old hp terminals we had in storage could be salvaged,
but not so delighted to find that we don't have a termcap entry
for them. They're a bit antiquated, but perhaps someone out there
has a handy dandy termcap entry they could send out this way?

I'd really appreciate it. Thanx in advance!

The termcap entries for any of the 26xx terminals are pretty standard for
most things except graphics. You should be able to use any HP termcap entry
for your 2622 terminals. Almost every system I've been on has at least an
entry for 2645 which will work fine.

Might try these, from an HP series 300 HP-UX system

you may have some trouble with that. i managed to get my hands on one here at
caltech, and we tried to tweak it but here's what happened:

it powered on, sent ^PCd (or something similar) and then sent ^F's once a
second after that. it blasted out a ^H when it went into setup mode, and ^PDx
when it went back to terminal mode (actual sequences may vary).

i think what is going on is that the 2622 is using some esoteric and HP250
specific codes to communicate with the host. the terminal inside is kind of
neat, it is a Z80 system with 6 rom sockets (2 used in mine) and 16K of ram.
i'm getting ready to disassemble the code and figure out how the hardware is
accessed, then reprogram it for vt52 (easy) and later vt100, maybe vt220, it
has underline and dim, and full ascii; a real nice display.

toddpw@tybalt.caltech.edu (Todd P. Whitesel) (04/15/89)

ok, after reading all the responses it appears that i have a special version
with stripped down roms or something that will only work with an HP250. does
anyone know where i can get tech info (internal memory map, etc.) for the
2622 so i can save myself the time guessing at where everything is?

any leads as to the hardware reference would be appreciated.
