[net.records] Trout Mask Replica

folke (04/27/83)

I was wondering if anyone out there knows where a copy
of "Trout Mask Replica" by Captain Beefheart can be procured.
I have been told that this album is out of print. As long as
we're on the subject, does anyone know where "Freak Out,"
"Absolutely Free," and "We're Only in it For the Money" by
The Mothers of Invention can be gotten? My copies are pretty
well cashed, and I am told that these are also out of print.
Fans of either Beefheart or the Mothers know that these albums
     are indispensible. Thanks.

I need to find a couple albums that are out of print
(so I am told by my local record dealer). The first is
"Trout Mask Replica" by Captain Beefheart. The other three
are "Freak Out," "Absolutely Free," and "We're Only in it For
the Money," all by The Mothers of Invention. I have all these
albums, but they're getting old and used and are sounding to
sound pretty scratchy on the old stereo. 'Preciate any info.

      Thanks.

I have a clean copy of "Trout Mask" & can tape it for you if you like.
Or, if you're ever in the area (Palo Alto, CA).

Bad news that such magnificent noise has been deleted -- I bought it
    new only 18 months ago.

A friend of mine has a copy of "Freak Out" in pretty good shape (slight
wear, almost no scratches). Again, I could tape it for you...

As to "Absolutely Free" and "We're Only in it for the Money", all I
have is 2nd generation tapes. If anyone knows where clean originals
of these can be found, I'm interested, too.

Music this cosmic (not to mention influential, historical, etc.)
is deleted for economic reasons, I guess. Pity. The punks won't
    get to hear it.

Trout Mask Replica is not out of print, at least I can remember seeing
it in record stores very recently (i.e. within the last year). The Mothers records
that you mention are very much out of print. I have not seen them for sale in
the last five or six years, and the people that I know who have bought them
found them in New York used record stores at abt. $20-25 apiece.
