[comp.terminals] 630 archives and software sources

alexb@cfctech.UUCP (Alex Beylin) (08/31/89)

Is there anybody in the netland who is archiving or collecting
software for the blit/630 terminals? I know about the
ATT Store, but it would seem that with all the 630 users on the
net, there should be a software archive.

Some time ago I read about a "blit" newsgroup. Does such an
animal really exist and where?

If there is enough interest, I would gladly collect a list
of available software and publish it as a 630 sources directory.

Not to my knowledge. There is some 630 software available through the
AT&T UNIX System ToolChest, and of course the software development kit
through normal AT&T licensing channels, but that's all I've heard about.

BRL started up an INFO-BLIT InterNet mailing list when we first acquired
5620 DMD terminals. However, it didn't carry much traffic and has
withered away. If someone is willing to maintain it, it could be
resurrected. Or, a Usenet news group might be better since you really
need UNIX anyway to fully exploit these terminals.

That would be a useful service. I've ported most of the 5620 software
to the 630 (who hasn't), and in addition have written "crabs" and "dmdp"
(printer driver) for the 5620 and later adapted them for the 630. I'd
like to do more with the 630, which is the nicest terminal I know of,
but haven't had the time.
