I have lived for years with terminals with key layouts of the DEC VT100 variety. As a user of a number of different DEC systems, I am casting long sideward glances at the new keyboard layout that started with the VT220. Now I am not trying to start a keyboard war (having never read this newsgroup before, I dunno what has happened here in the past). I just wanna find out if any manufacturers have layouts that are VT220-compatible but less radically altered from the VT100. Specificially, I am looking for a VT220/320 terminal with the usual keyboard layout WITH the FIND/SELECT/etc./arrow keypad between the main keyboard and the numeric keypad, in the standard VT220 style, with the following reversions to VT100 form: 1) ESC key in the upper left of the main keypad instead of the twiddle/backquote key 2) less-than (<) and greater-than (>) keys back over the comma and period 3) removal of the compose-character key from its position next to the spacebar where my palm hits it all the time 4) (extra bonus points) CTRL key located INBOARD from the CAPS LOCK key Flame me for my likes and dislikes if you want (I really am interested in why anyone likes the new layout of the above-mentioned keys), but PLEASE if you know of a manufacturer who kept true to VT100-style key layout while building a VT220-compatible terminal, let me know. Thanks. Terry R. Friedrichsen TERRY@SDSC.EDU (alternate address)
