  Forgive my ignorance, but could someone please tell me what the words
"TERMCAP" and "TERMINFO" mean?  Thanks.

TERMCAP is a data base describing the capabilities of terminals.
TERMINFO terminal capability data base for System V.

To get detail informations do :

man 5V terminfo
man 5 termcap
man tic
