[comp.terminals] ascii terminal at 38k recommendation wanted

bill@bilver.UUCP (Bill Vermillion) (02/13/90)

I work with small to medium Unix/Xenix systems and haven't found a
terminal that I like that performs well at 38k.

The wyse50s do, but they are not being made, and don't have the
feature I am looking for.

Would like to have the ability to handle connections to two hosts with
a keyboard sequence to toggle, and have internal memory to be able to
do virtual terminals with such things as the Anvil board, etc.

The Wyse60 (when it doens't break) has two ports, but you have to go
to set up to toggle the port.

The Link MC-10 (which I am using right now) has a toggle from the
keybaord without going to setup. BUt it is ABSOLUTELY ATTROCIOUS at
anthing above 9600, and probems there too. It will swap character
positions on the screen. Will drop CR sequences so the next line just
start a line lower. Can't seem to keep cursor control sequences right
and displays them to the screen at times.

A client has some MC-5's. The require hitting setting and pressing P
to toggle to the other host, not bad, but not great.
THe old 5's with the 1.0 roms are OK, but the new ones with the 2.03
ROMS fall apart above 9600 (and sometimes at 9600). An application
will draw a new screen, and if you try type-ahead the next thing you
get is the cursor motion sequences being displayed on the screen.
Puting a wyse in the same position doesn't have the problem.

The occurances are on three separate systems, and on even using the
Moto 68k processor, so it appears to be terminal dependant.

I have seen ads for the Falco. Anyone used them and what are your
comments. Or how about anyother recommendations for 38k ascii units
that WORK.

I use a GraphOn GO-250 at 38k on my HP9000/370 without any major problems.
The terminfo I have for the GO-250 doesn't have any padding at all and
still the terminal works quite OK. In fact, GO-250 even supports 57.6 k!
