[comp.terminals] Looking into portable terminals

matthew@sunpix.East.Sun.COM ( Sun Visualization Products) (08/28/90)

After having to lug around a Wyse 50 terminal to trade shows, (just in case
we need it,) an idea came to mind. If there were under $1000 laptop PC's,
there must inexpensive LCD terminals available too.

What I, and the other sys admins at this office, am looking for, is a laptop
terminal, akin to a 8088 based laptop PC with out disk drives and terminal
software in ROM.

We've tinkered around with a Tandy Model 100, but it couldn't keep up at
9600 bps (another must). We're now considering the Tandy WP2. We know
its advertised as a portable word processor, but it is notebook size, and
has a terminal mode that reportedly works @ 9600 bps. Another plus is the
price ($300), but a negative is its display size. (80x8 (would prefer 80x24))

If necessary, we'll go with a single floppy drive laptop, but I'd like to
know whats in the terminal market that may fit my need.

-- Can anybody help me?
