I have recently acquired an ancient (ok, circa 1979) Teleray terminal; a 1060 I think. I want to hook it up to my modem. It seems to have a standard serial jack in the back. Can I just get a serial cable and plug the modem into the terminal, or do I have to tie certain pins together? The modem is a standard Hayes compatible external model (no, it's an internal one :) ) John Feinberg SUNY Buffalo

I am pretty sure that a normal cable will not work. We had a bunch of Teleray 1061's and they all required a special cable that came with the terminal. It had a small tag on the side that needed to be closest to the terminal. Here are the pin mappings from the manual: 1 - Protective Ground 2 - Transmitted Data 3 - Received data 4 - Request to send 5 - Clear to Send (MUST BE ASSERTED FOR TRANSMIT) 7 - Signal Ground 8 - Carrier Detect (MUST BE ASSERTED FOR RECEIVE) 20 - Data Terminal Ready Good Luck.
