I am having trouble figuring out how to print (i.e. screen dump
or print a file) from my WYSE50 to my Epson (basic LX-80 or
something) IBM compatible printer which is hooked up via a
cable on the aux. port of the WYSE50 to a parallel-type port
on the printer itself.
I am using csh in UNIX, and I know how to control the terminal
using echo ... codes, but the print ones do nothing.

Well! An identical setup here, Scott ... My Wyse 50 terminal printer port feeds to a serial parallel converter (in the serial side, out to the buffer on the parallel side), then on to the printers. I have a 'Black Box' 64 K buffer in the line also. I feed it out at from the printer port on the terminal at 19,200 baud to the converter and buffer, then let the buffer babysit with the printers. You have to have a serial/parallel converter in the line, and make sure those dip switches are set correctly! Actually, I have a couple of A/B switches in the line as well since I have two Wyse 50 terminals. I can feed either one to the printers or the modems. On the printer end I have an A/B switch which feeds the Epson MX-80 or the IBM Selectric-converted-to-a-'letter quality'-printer .. as desired. When you want to print something out (screen dump, or otherwise staet sending stuff to the printer) go offline with the terminal long enough to issue the (Wyse) print commands locally. Issue the command, then jump back on line and continue. You should be all set. The print/send key can be used as follows -- Auxilliary printer port off Control T or Shift Control Print (key) Auxllary printer port on Control R or Shift Control Print (Shift Control Print is like a toggle, on then off, etc.) Print all unformatted ESC L or ESC p Dump the screen ESC P or PRINT (the shifted 'send' key) Print unprotected data only ESC @ You can't use the 'transparent print' feature in WY-50 mode. But you can use it in the ADDS-VP mode or the TVI modes. BREAK will kill a print session in its tracks. So I guess if you write your shell scripts to send you Control T's and Control R's you should be okay ... But if you are trying to just press keys at the keyboard while on line somewhere it won't work (that I know of) unless you get out of FDX mode and into local or block mode long enough to hit the desired keys. The system you are using probably has different intentions for those control keys, and I know the Print/Send key is interpreted in some funny way by the sites I use. Somewhere around here I have a tiny little script which I call from an alias in my .login .... 'cat' <filename> does what you expect, but if I say 'catp' <filename> the alias says to 'source print.out cat' and the little script I just sourced sends me a control R then starts catting, etc.... I hope this helps you a little. Or you could use a serial printer. That works too. >Auxilliary printer port off Control T or Shift Control Print (key) >Auxllary printer port on Control R or Shift Control Print > (Shift Control Print is like a toggle, on then off, etc.) >You can't use the 'transparent print' feature in WY-50 mode. It's in the manual, or in the 1 sheet paper addendum to some of the earlier manuals, and it's in the tech manual. Works just fine. -- Bill Vermillion - UUCP: uunet!tarpit!bilver!bill : bill@bilver.UUCP
