[comp.terminals] ISO Standard Encodings

martillo@crackers.clearpoint.com (Martillo) (06/07/91)

Could someone mail me the name of the ISO standard which specifies
encodings for character sets associated with different languages?
I have heard that this encoding set is a superset of ASCII. Is
there an ISO Terminal specification which is a superset of the
ANSI Terminal specification? If so, I would be interested in
learning the name of the document which specifies the ISO Terminal.

If you're looking for character display encodings, you're looking for
the ISO 8859 series. 8859/1.2 is called "Latin-1" and is the standard set
for most European languages. There are several others for Greek, Arabic,
Hebrew, Turkish, et cetera.

There's another standard for keyboard mappings, but I seem to have misplaced
mine ...
