When dumping a damaged filesystem it is possible to create a dump file with no root directory. On 4.2BSD at least this is a fatal error when restoring. Has anyone written some utilities to get files by inodes from a dump file? -- //Z\\ James M. Ziobro Ziobro.Henr@Xerox.ARPA {rochester,amd,sunybcs,ihnp4}!rocksvax!z

If you just want to restore individual files, a 'restore x ...' should do that. If you want to restore all files to their proper places ... I seem to remember someone making scripts to do that, but I'm not sure whom. -- Joe Yao hadron!jsdy@seismo.{CSS.GOV,ARPA,UUCP}
