[net.records] Chrome Boxed Set Review

dce@tekecs.UUCP (06/02/83)

Yesterday, I got back to my apartment, and surprise! My Chrome boxed set
had arrived only 2 weeks after I ordered it. This special edition box
contains six records and costs $16. Surprise number two : there are six
ALBUMS, not 45's like I expected. Released on Subterranean/Siren records,
this collection contains a history of Chrome's American albums (they
released their best album 'Red Exposure' on Beggars Banquet in England)
and two new records. The box includes -

Alien Soundtracks(1977) - Second album. Sounds like someone
				  playing 3 radios, changing stations
on two while leaving the third on
a heavy metal station that is too
				  far away.

	Half-Machine Lip Moves
(1978) - More of the same, but this time you
find out that the radio station was
not too far away, the music is just
				  deranged.

Blood on the Moon(1980?)- Jimi Hendrix meets funky robots.

No Humans Allowed(1981) - More of the same but more listenable.

Chronicles I & II (new) - This is the same type of stuff,
but the songs are much longer (5 songs
on two records). Contains the new
				  single, "Anorexic Sacrifice".

Either "Blood ..." or "No Humans ..." contains the songs from the
soundtrack EP for the film "Read Only Memory".

This is a great collection for Chrome fans and for anyone who likes
electronic music. For those of you who are Residents fans and have
not heard of Chrome, listen to Subterranean Modern again. The Chrome
songs on it are pretty much what you can expect from these albums;
not silly like the Residents, but just as good.
