We are set up to use internet addressing to reply by mail. Unfortunately, there are many sites who get news but are not listed in the uucp map, nor do they belong to a domain (the domain is .UUCP). I know -- this is their problem. One solution is to edit the To: field before mailing. But this requires foreknowlege as to whether the site is know to the .UUCP domain server. So, we try the internet address first. If the site is unknown, the .UUCP domain server send the mail back undelivered. Now, I would like to add the news path to the path database for future reference. In fact, I would like to add entries to path.local so that the site will be picked up in future runs of pathalias. At present, this can be done manually, but does any one have a program you can feed failed mail into and have it update paths and path.local based on any News-path: field found? I am inclined to write such a utility myself, but I already get a lot of flack about programming time spent on usenet. -- Stuart D. Gathman <..!seismo!dgis!bms-at!stuart>
