Recently I noticed that my paths file was totally screwed up and I went looking for the reason. After no small time I found that the latest posting of u.usa.md.1 includes two definitions of smart-host, equivalenced to decuac. (smart-host, as I'm sure everyone knows, is a *local* definition of a host that will resolve addresses that can not be translated on the local machine.) This had the effect of equating decuac with *my* smart-host definition (elrond), causing pathalias to think they were the same machine and combining all their connections. Needless to say (although I already did, and am about to again), the resulting paths file was bogus. I imagine that all path file all over the net are in sorry shape after incorporating this map file. Everyone, you should edit your copy of u.usa.md.1 to remove these lines. I'd suggest that the regional coordinators add an item to their list of things to do before publishing maps: make sure there are no "smart-host" definitions lurking therein!! This may have already been mentioned, as I seem to have had a bit of a news blackout for the last week or so (could it be related? nahhhh). If so, please pardon me for bringing it up again. -mm- -- Mark E. Mallett PO Box 4188/ Manchester NH/ 03103 Bus.
