How do you maintain the uucp status files? That is, "uustat -Mall" generates something like: anasaz 06/16-12:11 06/16-12:11 CONVERSATION SUCCEEDED rayn 02/22-04:00 02/21-17:12 WRONG TIME TO CALL anasza 04/20-00:13 04/19-23:51 BAD SYSTEM I would like to get rid of that third entry (which is the result of a typo) but retain the others. I know of no commands to do this. The "uustat -c" command only seems to affect the R_stat file, not the L_stat; and even if it did change L_stat it would remove the entry for "rayn" along with "anasza". Do you know how this is supposed to be done? If not, are the structures of the L_stat and R_stat files known so I can write some kind of editor? Thanks in advance. As usual, e-mail to address below unless you think your answer has global interest. I'll summarize. -crl --------------- "I read the news today, oh boy!" --John Lennon =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | DCF, Inc. | UUCP: ...noao!mcdsun!nud!anasaz!dcfinc!chad | | 14623 North 49th Place | Ma Bell: (602) 953-1392 | | Scottsdale, AZ 85254 | Loran: N-33deg37min20sec W-111deg58min26sec | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | Disclaimer: These ARE the opinions of my employer! | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I know of no commands to do this. Why would one want to do this? I thought that uustat is just a way of summarizing the info in the LOGFILEs for your benefit. Doesn't seem that a "bad system" entry could cause any problems for you. I know of no commands to do this. ... We had the same problem here (with even the same cause! :-{ ). What we ended up doing is running the L_stat file thorough "vis" (alas, a Hewlett-Packard special), which puts out all the unprintable characters in \0nnn notation. Then you can edit this representation to delete the undesired entry, and re-create the original file with the reverse filter "inv". (Note that BSD has "cat -v" for the first transliteration, but I don't know what for the second; in a pinch you _could_ use uuencode/uudecode ::::----((((.) :_s_e_t_ _p_e_r_s_o_n_a_l___o_p_i_n_i_o_n___m_o_d_e_ _o_n BTW, I think it is less than useful to post a response to a rational request which offers _no_ assistance, but merely questions the desire to do such a thing. Sometimes, it's for learning value; other times, the desire to see less "noise" coming out of a utility program. The only response necessary to "Why?" is "Because!" - answers _should_ be helpful. :_s_e_t_ _p_e_r_s_o_n_a_l___o_p_i_n_i_o_n___m_o_d_e_ _o_f_f I hope this helps solve your problem. > Boyd Ostroff * Technical Director * Department of Theatre * SUNY Oswego -- John D.
