[comp.mail.uucp] help needed - 3b1, uucico, and a Vax running 4.3

dab@oswego.Oswego.EDU (Dave Bozak) (06/29/88)

I've had no luck getting connected, apparently everyone thinks if cu works,
then the connect with uucico should work just fine! But it doesn't!!

BTW, the unixpc is running System V.2 style uucp.

HELP!!!

I have a system direct-connected to a VAX running 4.3. I have the following
L.sys:

rocky Any tty000 9600 tty000 "" \r lease\055\055>--lease\055\055>--lease\055\055> uucleo assword: <stuff>

and I have the following L-devices:

DIR tty000 0 9600

and when I use uucico, with the following commands:

rm -f /usr/spool/uucp/STST.rocky
/usr/lib/uucp/uucico -r1 -srocky -x9

here is what I get:

finds called
getto called
call: no. tty000 for sys rocky linit: got line - got line - got line i
got line - got line - got line - got line - got line - got line - g
ot line - got line - got line - got line - got line - got line - DIR

 enter us_sst, status is : 05
s.sysname : rocky
 enter ub_sst, status is : 5
Rmtname: rocky
exit code 0

and here is what the LOGFILE in /usr/spool/uucp looks like:

rocky!uucp (6/13-9:29:21) (C,6071,0) C.rocky (bldfl)
rocky!uucp (6/13-9:29:40) (C,6071,0) TIMEOUT (DIRECT LINE WRITE tty000 10)
rocky!uucp (6/13-9:29:40) (C,6071,0) FAILED (call to rocky )

I never get the login prompt, that's what is weird...

Further, when I use cu to call rocky and login as uucleo, I get the following
AFTER I get a login prompt and such...

Shere rocky
           * <--- cursor is here where asterisk is, as if having
done a linefeed without carriage return.

problem is, I have to hit return after getting a Connected message
before receiving a prompt. (Cu runs like a charm.)

ANYWAY, I am totally stuck. I've redone the L.sys file everywhichway
possible, but with a minimum of

rocky Any tty000 9600 tty000

I get the same response as above.

BTW, I am running 3.51a and the new uucico.

What is wrong?? HELP! (and NO NO NO NO NO, I don't have/can't afford hdb!)
