[comp.mail.uucp] net and mail access for foreign machines

how do i find out how to get access to unix mail and the net from
`foreign' machines.  i am specifically interested in macintoshes
and vax-vms (ugh).

please resond directly as this is not a normally read newsgroup for
me.
