This problem is undoubtedly due to my own lack of knowledge, but then again -- that's why I'm asking. I'm very much a unix amateur. When I reply to another person logged in on the same system using the "r" command in the mail program, I have no trouble. But if I use "r" in trying to reply to anyone on another machine, it drops out either the next machine or the one after that from the pathname, and the mail bounces. For instance, if something came to me with a path ames!pyramid!thirdi!metapsy!sarge and I try to reply using the mail program, it bounces, telling me there is no such system as metapsy!pyramid, or that thirdi doesn't recognize ames as a system, or something of the sort. If I check the outgoing stuff in the spool directory, the header is garbled there. If I use plain uucp to send mail, it works fine. I.e., if I go: "cat (filename) | mail thirdi\!pyramid\!ames\!joeblow" It works fine every time. So it seems to have something to do with the mail program, rather than the uucp stuff itself. Also, I have no trouble getting messages from others. It is very frustrating, because I'd sure like to use the "r" feature of the mail program. I'm running BSD 4.2 Version 3.0 on an Integrated Solutions machine, and, so far as I can remember, it has never worked properly. Perhaps someone has had this same problem, or could give me a clue about what to look for to diagnose the problem?
