I have been preparing to install pathalias/smail on our system and have some questions that haven't been answered in the recent mail software discussion. First my configuration: two 4.3 systems (hsi86, hsi) connected via ethernet, one system(hsi) has uucp links (including uunet) to the outside world. Now running sendmail with the lanleaf sendmail template on hsi86 and the lanroot sendmail template on hsi. We are not official registered in any domain. My Plan: Create a path database for smail using pathalias from the complete comp.uucp.map database. Install this on hsi. Complete a path database to install on hsi86 that simply has hsi86 listed and then hsi listed as the smart host. Make two different sendmail.cf files by running make.cf.sh twice (host=hsi, and host=hsi86). Install smail as indicated in the Install document on both machines with respective sendmail.cf files. Question: Since we aren't registered in a domain, what should I specify for the domain in sendmail.cf? uu.net? uucp? Question: Will this set up work? Will hsi86 forward non-local mail to hsi because it is the smart-host? Will hsi use the path database correctly to queue up outgoing mail. Question: Other than remaking rn with INTERNET defined so that the reply address is in internet format, is there anything else I need to do to our mailers, news readers etc.? Thanks for any help you can give. -- Gary Wright ...!uunet!hsi!wright Health Systems International wright@hsi.uu.net
