I have someone I would like to keep in touch with. He is working for IBM in Florida, and says he has an account on IBM's VNET. Is there a gateway from USENET, Internet, etc... to VNET. If so, what would the syntax be and where would I mail. I don't remember the specifics, but the last I heard, any mail going into or out of IBM's VNET had to be authorized ahead of time and have things set up on the gateway machine. -- @disclaimer(Any concepts or opinions above are entirely mine, not those of my employer, my GIGI, or my 11/34) beak is@>beak is not Anthony A. This is usually the case only if 'user' is working for the research arm of IBM (e.g. San Jose or Yorktown). -drc

Well, looking at the "Notable Computer Networks" article from Oct. 1986 of CACM (Volume 29 number 10), it says that From ARPA Internet: USERID@IBM.COM should work. or from UUCP: gateway!ibm.com!USERID%HOST This article is old, so I don't know if it's still valid. -- Dave Arnold (dave@arnold.UUCP) Work: Volt Delta Resources Phone: (714) 921-7635 Home: 26561 Fresno street, Mission Viejo, Ca 92691

If anything would work, the UUCP *might*; I've never tried it. But, you must know the name of the machine in VNET (IBM's internal network). As far as I know, if the user at IBM does not have access to a machine that has contact to the outside world, then you cannot reach him/her. At least I didn't see an immediate way to do it while I was employed there this summer. (Of course, I didn't check for UUCP or the Internet..so, who knows?)
