ntanaka@GANDALF.CS.CMU.EDU (Nobuyoshi Tanaka) (12/06/88)
Hi! I have found discussion on From: field and I am convinced that my question should go to this news group. My problem is; I receive mails from a friend of mine in Japan. They come in the following route; tomato.bsd.mt.nec.junet (his home machine) xwin.bsd.mt.nec.junet ideon.bsd.mt.nec.junet splv1.ccs.mt.nec.junet necspl.ccs.mt.nec.junet necntc.nec.com (US gateway) harvard.harvard.edu gandalf.cs.cmu.edu (my home machine) But, the From: field I get is; From: necspl!tomato.bsd.mt.nec.junet!nagano@harvard.harvard.edu I tried to reply these using mh repl command but the reply mails went to somewhere but Japan. If I add "necntc!" to the front of address, it works fine. My question is; 1) Should NECNTC add its name to From: field or not? 2) In what case and how should gateway mailers rewrite From: fields? Thanks in advance. P.S. I don't flame against any of my gateways. I'm thanking very much all of you. -- DISCLAIMER: This is my personal opinion, none of NEC nor CMU. = Nobuyoshi Tanaka Internet: ntanaka@cs.cmu.edu = = NEC Corporation Voice: +1 (412) 268-7673 = = (currently at CMU) CMU-ROSE :-) =
