This machine is a Perkin-Elmer 3220 running P-E's version of UNIX version 7. The UUCP is v7 vintage, with P-E improvements, and I've added all of the fixes posted to the net since 1983 that I've seen (we have source). We have about 50 uucp neighbours, and process 5-10Mb/day over five phone lines at 1200 baud. Quite often I find a hanging uucico, that needs to be killed off by hand to free things up. This has been happening once every few days. There are two "modes" this appears in; one is on dialout, where it happens randomly when calling several different systems. The LOGFILE shows nothing unusual; the uucico seems to be in the middle of a file transmission. The modem is still tied up, but no data is moved on the line. In the other instance, on dialin, it only happens with one site (attcan, an AT&T machine running SysV), but when it happens, the uucico at this end keeps chewing up more and more CPU time, although the call is dead. Does anyone know what's going on here? Is there some easy fix to the uucico timeout mechanism? (Yeah, I know, "get HDB".)
