[comp.mail.uucp] I'm New, What Do I Read First

bnfb@june.cs.washington.edu (Bjorn Freeman-Benson) (12/16/88)

My Background:
I have an SCO Xenix machine at home and it is attached to the net
via UUCP. However, I don't like having to type the full path name
when I can use domains on other machines.
Your Background:
This news group seems to be the place to ask about things like
pathalias, smail, uumail, sendmail, etc, are all of which are
vaguely familar, but not on my machine.
The Question:
In order to have a substantive dialog with people in this
newsgroup, I need to come up to speed on the "commonly accepted
general knowledge". Is there are tech report, article or
archived text file with this sort of information, or should I
just ask my dumb questions here?

Thanks,
Bjorn N. Freeman-Benson

I asked a similar question a while ago, and sorry to have acted like a
black hole. The one thing I was told I absolutely *must* read is:

Managing UUCP and Usenet
in the Nutshell Handbooks series,
Published by O'Reilly and Associates
1-800-338-NUTS or
..uunet!ora!nuts

Thanks to all who responded to my question. I'm a-readin'.
