Greetings!

We are simply overwhelmed by the zillions of mails pouring in. Most of
these are in the form of test messages while some are queries about
this connection. I guess it will take us a couple of days to reply to
all individuals, but here are some answers:

a) Yes, we are connected! This is the most common kind of mail we are
   getting: "are you REALLY there"!

b) Are there other nodes on the net? Yes!

Here is a sampling of the nodes. The detailed list will be posted
   within a week:

shakti - NCST, Bombay. Linked to uunet: mail uunet!shakti!postmaster
agni - IGIDR, Bombay: mail uunet!shakti!agni!root
tifr - TIFR, Bombay: mail uunet!shakti!tifr!root
betaal - IIT, Bby, Computer Centre: mail uunet!shakti!betaal!root
vikram - Dept. of Electronics, Delhi: mail uunet!shakti!vikram!root
netearth-Dept. of CS, IIT Delhi. mail uunet!shakti!vikram!netearth!root

c) The infoserver (uunet!shakti!infoserv) will be down over the weekend
for repairs. The mail you all sent was 'live' test-data. The
infoserver is still shuddering from the aftereffects! All of you who
haven't yet heard from it, should be doing so next week.

d) About the link itself; we dial in to UUNET a couple of times during
the day, using dial-up telephone circuits. The UUNET connection is a
part of project ERNET of the Dept. of Electronics, GOI. The project
is headed by Mr. S. Ramakrishnan (uunet!shakti!vikram!ramki), and he
is one who sends us the cheque that enables us to pay the phone bills.

I hope these answers will help. Do send us mail. We in India look
forward to hearing from you.
