The following is a connectivity map of UNIX backbone sites and was taken from, "UNIX Communications" -by Bart Anderson, Bryan Costales, and Harry Henderson - Copyright 1987 by The Waite Group. I didn't get permission to reproduce it. The authors claim to have down-loaded it from USENET anyway, so I don't feel *THAT* bad :-) cbosgd__________________________________clyde___watmath_________utzoo | | | inhp4___alberta_________ubc-vision______burl linus | | | | | | |____magnetp uw-beaver ulysses_________bellcore | | | | | | tektronix_______________________________decvax | | | | qantel__________________ | ___________oliveb__glacier_decwrl__| | | | | | | | kddlab__________hplabs__________sdcrdcf | | | | | | | | | sdcsvax | | | | | | | | hao | | | | | | | | | | drillsys | | (Netherlands) | | | | mcvax___________seismo__________gatech__akqua___________mcnc | | | | | | lll-lcc___V_____lll-crg_| | |___________cmcl2___________________phillabs V | | munnari | USA | ----------|--------------------------------------------------------------- EUROPE | | | (Finland) (Sweden) (Denmark) (W Germany) (Switzerland) | penet enea diku unido cernvax | | | | | | +-------+-----------+-----------+-----------+------------+ | | | | | vmucnam vmars ukc prlb2 i2unix (France) (Austria) (UK) (Belgium) (Italy) Here's what I'd like to know... - What parts of the map are no longer valid (ie: I don't think inhp4 is still around) - What new backbone sites have been added since this map was made? - *WHERE* are these (new/old/all) backbone sites located? - What are names of some of the names of additional UNIX sites which are connected to these backbone sites? Yes, I realize the realize there is a comp.mail.maps newsgroup on USENET - You're probably reading it right now :-) - However, I never seem to be able to find the information I'm looking for and, as some co-workers have pointed out, the information found in comp.mail.maps is not always up-to-date :-) I don't currently have any connectivity info for ARPANET. A map like the one above would be nice to have. If you have one or know of a publication which contains one, I'd very much appreciate such information. I'd appreciate responses via e-mail. No need to flood the newsgroup with info that many readers are probably already aware of (unless the map which I've included is grossly inaccurate :-) Besides... e-mail responses will give me additional info about net connectivity (If it's not asking too much, please tell me your geographical location).
