[comp.mail.uucp] Networking on a vax11/780

janhe@maestro.htsa.aha.nl (Jan Hellings) (06/01/89)

In our hospital we are using Digital Vax 11/780 with an odd operating system
with hardly any communication possibilities. So we are interested in any
portable communication package.
It is said that there exist such a packet written in C.
A Canadian vendor should sell such a program. We don't know a name or address
If anyone knows anything we are glad to hear from you.
Thanks in advance

It depends on what you want to talk to. mail to the outside world?
transfers to PC? It also depends on what your operating system
supports, do you need remote tty drivers (hairy and very OS dependent)
or just a shell to transfer mail and files?

For straight communications (if your OS can support a async terminal
login at all) might be C-kermit, available from Columbia University.

A crew up in Canada (Vancouver BC) does UUPC, a UUCP clone, for free.
However, the target language is Turbo C, which is not exactly known for
running on Vaxen.

To give suggestions, I think the exact operating systems needs to be
known.
