[comp.mail.uucp] Looking for UUCP for PC/DOS

bobm@cpoint.UUCP (Bob Mulcahy) (06/23/89)

I am looking to connect my PC to the usenet. I have heard of a program
called uupc. Any info on that program or any other package would be helpful.

thanks,
bob

Could you explain? I recently installed UUPC (the version released two
years ago), and outside of a few initial hacks to make it go, it's been
working just fine for me.

I am suffering from trying to keep three different mailers (UUPC, CP/Mail,
and unix 4.2) straight, so what's one more? :-)

fsuucp is (yet another) PC uucp implementation. The difference is that it
also has READNEWS and supports "real" news, as opposed to kludging news
through mail.

Currently, release 1.00A Beta is available. Bug reports are coming in from
users of this version, and i am updating the beta about every 2 weeks. The
final version is scheduled to be ready around the end of July.

Your can get a copy via FTP from polyslo.calpoly.edu, or download one
(sorry, only xmodem at 1200 for now) from my BBS at +1-805-544-9234.
The BBS is another project to be released on the 24th of August, so bear
with it if you call.

The fsuucp package is shareware, with a $35 donation requested. All
registered users will recieve a final version disk and pronted manual via
paper mail free of charge.

transfer at Fubar Systems BBS is now supported at 2400. However, there is
serious software rot in the low level comm drivers for the system (the BBS
is in beta testing as well as fsuucp), and as such the system is VERY
shakey. As soon as the problems are worked out, I will add anon uucp to
get the package.

Plea: If there is a guru out there who understands or has written turbo
pascal or turbo c routines for interfacing with a FOSSIL driver on the PC
(such as x00.sys), Pleeeeease contact me, I'm having problems that I cannot
understand.

(like the incoming buffer just stops working every so often, characters
are missed on occasion, etc etc.)

I can be reached as cambler@polyslo.calpoly.edu or voice at +1 805 546 0820
