We've got a Dual Model 83 that we're trying to get a mail feed going on. Since we're a local call away from UUnet, we figured we'd get a feed from them. We keep dying on the "Welcome to UUNET" message that they send out to new subscribers. As near as I can tell, here's what's happening: 1) UUnet calls us, logs in, and the uucico starts. 2) File transfer goes normally for a while, then stops for ~30 seconds, then starts up again. 3) #2 repeats itself a few times. 4) Connection dies. We always get precisely 9728 bytes transferred. I had a friend who has a Unix machine send me a test file of approximately 20K. Same thing happened, except with a different amount getting through. Here's an excerpt from the AUDIT file (we were running in -x9 mode) send 46 rec h->cntl 37777777671 send 47 rec h->cntl 37777777601 send 40 alarm 1 send 40 rec h->cntl 37777777611 send 41 rec h->cntl 37777777621 send 42 rec h->cntl 37777777631 send 43 rec h->cntl 37777777641 send 44 rec h->cntl 41 state - 30 rec h->cntl 37777777651 send 45 ... It appears that the problem is on our end, since we keep running into the same problem with different machines. An excerpt from /usr/spool/uucp/LOGFILE : uucp uunet (8/4-17:2-335) OK (startup) uucp uunet (8/4-17:2-335) REQUESTED (S D.uunetBLuw2 D.uunetSLuw2 daemon) daemon uunet (8/4-17:8-335) CAUGHT (SIGNAL 1) It appears that we are hanging somehow, and UUNET is hanging up on us. Our configuration is as follows: Dual Model 83, Ver. 7 Unix (Release M1.50), Modem is Bell 212-LIA (genuine Bell). The modem appears to be functioning perfectly for interactive use via a terminal, etc... Any suggestions? ---Rob
