jcf3703@ttardis.UUCP (chap flack) (09/17/89)
I'm back on the net after about 4 years, thanks to the gracious hospitality of ttardis's people. I'm pretty rusty. Four years ago I was fairly proficient (it's coming back) but: nobody told us anything about smart routers, and I never used Internet addresses for anything. Is there a document that lays it all out? Is it available on-line so someone could forward it to me? Or can someone refer me to a standard? Detroit Public Lib has all the ANSI, IEEE, and gov't standards, among others, and WSU has the ISOs. All I'd need is a reference. I'd like to go to the source and study that and ask no more questions. My concrete example: Soon after getting my ttardis account, I tried to re-establish contact with a fellow from the Carleton computer center (where I was 4 years ago). I have a recent mailing (snail) which states his address as chenry@carleton.edu. I tried--first guess--sending something (from ttardis) to cfctech!sharkey!chenry@carleton.edu and was told by a daemon that sharkey doesn't have a chenry. (I knew that.) What'd I do wrong? Thanks for any help. Please mail replies, I don't think ttardis gets this newsgroup. -Chap Flack ...uunet!edsews!rel!ttardis!jcf3703 here by the grace of ttardis and not as a representative of my employer...
