[comp.mail.uucp] TBBS multi-line software & uucp

roise@sumax.UUCP (Linda L. Roise) (12/16/89)

There is a BBS in my area whose sysop is interested in Usenet access.
I am a beginner myself (what I have that he hasn't is Usenet access!)
and can't even begin to interpret his message, which follows. If anyone
else can, and I'm sure this makes perfect sense to most of you, I will
be happy to forward his replies. The BBS is a technical one, by the
way, operated by a co-op, a site to which many people might appreciate
mail access.

>I'm looking into the issue of becoming an UseNet node. Any information you
>can get will be wholeheartedly appreciated. Robert Riebman is coming down
>today to give me a run through on it through PolarServ.
>
>My main problem is a software problem. The BBS for speed purposes uses
>TBBS multi-line software. Unlike single line BBS software that can use
>Doors etc. to address using external programs, it becomes tougher with
>multi-line software. As far as I know the only software written to
>interface with TBBS is the SEADog FidoNet software, and the eSoft Inc
>(authors of TBBS) option modules. Right now the only option modules
>available are one for sysop use only and a DBase 3+ clone. The current
>version of TBBS v2.1 has problems with running outside programs, mainly in
>transmitting information out, not in receiving it. V2.2 which will be
>released by March will fix those problems amongst others. But unless I can
>find some way of feeding UseNet material directly into the BBS I am not
>going to do it. The amount of daily material from UseNet is staggering and
>there is no way I am going to attempt to manually massage that data into
>the BBS.

Take a look at the "UFGate" package. It is designed to connect Fido
BBS's to Usenet, and it might be usable in your case. It is shareware,
and costs (I believe) $195.
