[comp.mail.uucp] Need help w/UFGATE's uuslave program

knutsen@pilot.njin.net (Mark Knutsen) (11/23/89)

The first step towards a successfully-running UFGATE system is a
working uuslave program that will call up your favorite host and poll
it for mail. Unfortunately, mine won't. Here's the picture:

If I attach absolutely nothing to the AT's COM1: port and run uuslave,
it reports attempting to make a call and failing. Fine.

If I attach my modem cable (no modem at the other end, just plug in
the cable) to the COM1: port and run uuslave, it reports "inbound call
detected" and attempts to become the server to a nonexistent client.

Finally, if I attach a modem cable and a modem, I get the same results
as with no modem.

I think my cable is funny; perhaps it's holding some line high or low
to confuse uuslave into thinking there's something real there. Would
someone please confirm these suspicions and tell me exactly which
lines the cable must carry through for all this to work right? Also,
which line does uuslave look at to decide if a caller's online?

Sounds right; thanks for the advice. Hope this helps someone else,
too.

Yup, your pin 8 on the rs-232 cable is being held high. Get
   a standard "straight-through" cable.

 Hi!

Is there a way of running UUSlave in 7E1? It seems to default to 8N1
and the newsfeed is 7E1... Thanks a lot. By the way, my UUslave is
dated 6-29-89 and is 43093 bytes. Any newer UUSlave out there??

No, you basically got to get your feed to call you in 8N1. I know it is
possible, I forgot what information they need to put in their l.sys file.

My newsfeed cannot call me (according to postmaster), is there any
other way to get UUSlave to work?? Is there anyone who has a 7E1
version of UUSlave out there?
uucico for WAFFLE works at 7E1, maybe this program could be
modified to work with UFGATE? Thanks.
