In the world of amature networking (eg. FidoNet), there is no simple PC
solution to a FidoNet/UUCP(Usenet) gateway. A colleague and I have
decided to cure this problem by adapting his mailer to support the UUCP
protocols as well as wazoo and other PC specific mail transfer methods.
The problem is that we can't locate any information about the current UUCP
protocol. What better place to find UUCP information than in the uucp
Usenet group! If you have any UUCP specifics (in the form of documents,
C source, or even hints) email them to me and I'll post a summary for the
benefit of any other ignorant souls. :-)
Basically, we are looking for information concerning:
1. The existance and use of old/new versions
2. The specifics, procedures, of the protocol, or
3. references to sources that may have such information.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is already a Fido to UseNet gateway - one shining example is
the site at address uwvax!geowhiz!circle (Fido Node 121/1). I understand
he had some serious programming put in on a Fido to UseNet gateway - but
everytime I try to understand just WHERE he put his time in I get confused...
However, I too, want to try and connect to UseNet - any info would be
very much appreciated. Best description I've seen so far is in the
back of the UNIX Programmer's Manual (vol. 2). The book I have appears
to talk about UNIX System 7.
However, I STILL have more questions -
- What is the very FIRST things that the Master/Slave uucico
programs trade? BEFORE the protocol agreement (Uxxxx and Px).
- Isn't there a way to introduce other protocols into uucico?
What is it - and is there an XMODEM protocol?
Any other help is appreciated ... thanks!
