Well, as was pointed out by several people, the script 'remote.unknown' is the reason it doesn't work. After removing it, everything runs fine. I would have expected something more subtile, e.g. - if 'remote.unknown' is not there, or cannot be executed, refuse connection requests by unknown systems - if 'remote.unknown' returns a non-zero exit status, refuse the connection; otherwise allow it This would have given great possibilities ...
