From article <1990Feb24.205921.7343@athena.mit.edu>, by dmwatt@athena.mit.edu (David M Watt): > but they <strongly> recommend that you try, try, and retry, so (haven't looked > at the code, so I may be talking out of my hat here) I wish that UUPOLL had > a smart redialing time algorithm buried in it somewhere. If you insert the same host into the SYSTEMS file multiple times for UUPC, UUIO will magically try the numbers in order until it gets one to login (the system connected to system message). This allows retry with different or even the same telephone numbers. I don't know if this documented in the UUPCBUGS.DOC (which one of these days will become CHANGES.DOC, or, egads, CHANGES.TeX), but if it is, it's well buried. UUPOLL was written in a great hurry one Thursday night in Danbury, Conn., when I needed an autopoll routine that didn't require Personal REXX (the language I prefer on both MS-DOS and OS/2 for command files); the program has serious shortcomings as a generalized task scheduler, but then again, so does MS-DOS itself. Is someone writing all this down for when we write the manual? For blackmailing me? For rec.humor?
