I am giving a 1-hour talk on "UUCP ``g'' Protocol Details" at the Spring '90 DECUS Symposium. (May 7-11, New Orleans) I have prepared a fairly detailed handout. It covers the Shere exchange, data link details, application layer (S, SY, file transfer, C, H, etc.), and the presentation layer (how "messages" and "files" are sent in long and short data packets). The stuff on C and X files (what would that be, an "application-2" layer? Or... never mind, this isn't OSI) isn't written yet. It'll be part of the talk but in order to get reviews back in time I want to send the current package out now. Are there any uucp.gurus out there who would be willing to review it? I don't expect that it's too far off the mark since the DECUS uucp (VMS) code has been running at many sites for over a year now, and I [shameless plug] did the data link implementation [end shameless plug]... but I want to make sure that all of the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted. p.s. -- All of you who want to know how uucp works, please don't ask me to send you a copy yet! This WILL be posted to the net, but only after (a) a review cycle and (b) presentation in New Orleans (which consitutes part of the review cycle; it's amazing how many errors in handouts and slides can hide until you're up at the podium!). --- Jamie Hanrahan, Simpact Associates, San Diego CA Chair, VMSnet [DECUS uucp] and Internals Working Groups, DECUS VAX Systems SIG Internet: jeh@simpact.com, or if that fails, jeh@crash.cts.com Uucp: ...{crash,scubed,decwrl}!simpact!jeh
