I am having a problem with my HDB uucp in getting the polling function to work. When I use the poll program that creates a C. file just prior to the scheduler running, the poll call is made and any traffic is transmitted...but, the poll C. file isn't removed. The next time the scheduler runs, it makes another poll call. I thought this was supposed to work in such a way that you could have your scheduler running say every 15 minutes and have a site being polled every 4 hours. Then, if the poll call is unsuccessful, a new attempt is made every 15 minutes (or longer depending on the timing delay function) until a connection is made. At that time the poll C. file should be removed and polling stops until the 4 hour mark comes again. The work around I have implemented is to use the poll script that forces a call after removing the .Status file. This ensures that an attempt is made at the correct interval, but if the attempt fails no more attempts are made until the poll daemon runs again. This is not a good solution because a remote site's line could just happen to be busy every time you dial at 10 past the hour, but free for the rest of the hour. Since all of this seems to be controlled by the uucp programs (SCO XENIX V/386 2.3.2), I suspect that it is a bug. Has anyone else experienced problems with polling on this O/S?. -- Bill Irwin - TWG The Westrheim Group - Vancouver, BC, Canada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ uunet!van-bc!twg!bill (604) 431-9600 (voice) | UNIX Systems Bill.Irwin@twg.UUCP (604) 431-4629 (fax) | Integration
