[comp.mail.uucp] Installed smail 2.5, having a small problem

I just installed Smail 2.5 and I am having a small problem.

After following the instructions carefully, I ran into the following error
when trying to use mail (actually svbinmail) to mail to a user.

The program gives the following error:

No local mailer defined
No prog mailer defined 

This does not occur when mailx is invoked.  For instance,

mail bob < test    causes the error
mailx bob < test   works fine

All this stuff is kinda new to me, and nobody else here knows anything.  Any
help will be greatly apprecriated.  Thanks!!!
