[comp.mail.uucp] routing question

sef@kithrup.com (Sean Eric Fagan) (12/29/90)

I mentioned this before, and got a *little* bit of a response, but nothing
helpful.

Once again: kithrup polls two sites (nobody calls kithrup *sniff* 8-)),
sco(.com), and ucscc(.ucsc.edu). It calls sco thrice a day, and ucscc once
an hour. sco has a map entry, but ucscc does not.

Short of forging an entry for ucscc, is there any way of telling the maps
databases that I am only one hop away from the internet? If I *do* have to
forge one, what should it look like? (I.e., how do I tell pathalias that
ucscc is on the internet, so any other site also on the internet can get to
it in less than a second [hopefully 8-)]?)

Thanks...

I run a bbs using Opus that is linked into Fidonet. Using UFGATE,
I can transceive Usenet email and news with my host, infonode.
Infonode runs sendmail and can handle fully qualified domain names.
Here is the bang path from my site, umagic, to uunet.

  umagic!infonode!ingr!uunet

Email on infonode or ingr, if it doesn't belong to one of those,
is routed to uunet for distribution. What should be done to allow
mail from infonode or ingr to go to umagic (assuming that is the
destination) without being routed through uunet? Is this handled
in the maps? Umagic's or Infonode's, or both? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Keith Ford
