[comp.mail.uucp] OK News transfers, SLOW uucp transfers!

bill@unixland.uucp (Bill Heiser) (02/09/91)

I've noticed that my normal average CPS for News/mail transfers
is around 1100-1300 for inbound uucp transfers. When I send myself
large files via uucp, though (i.e. 2-4mb files), the overall cps
drops way down to something like 800 or 900 cps.

It woudl seem like larger files would be more efficient, since the
handshaking at BOF/EOF doesn't happen as often. I've heard that
compression should be off on Telebits during compressed file transfers,
but I think I have it off (inbound news is compressed too).

What gives?
