Hello UUCPeople. I am interested in knowing what mail batching techniques are being used "out there" by uucp sites (if any). The point in mail batching is the reduction the per-message overhead incurred by normal rmail executions (down to nearly 0), and enabling compression of a mail batch (which should cut another %50). This is achieved by batching several messages together and sending them over as one UUCP command+data. It works much like batched news, and gives the same kind of benefits. I have Smail 3.1.19 (lick lips :-)) installed and running, and know about it's (great) rcsmtp feature. Smail sites can easily do compressed mail batching with each other, but I want to know about other mechanisms. Unfortunately, I am currently running my mail feed through UUNET, who (justifiably) don't feel it is wise to move such a heavily connected machine to Smail just to get this extra feature. UUNET uses some version of sendmail. I'd like to know if there are any mail batching mechanisms that can be added to sendmail which may make the move easier and worthwhile. With such knowledge I could try to persuade them, which could benefit anyone connected to UUNET. Please e-mail, I'll summerize. AdvThanks, -- Gil. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Gil Tene "Some days it just dosn't pay - -- devil%imp@uunet.uu.net to go to sleep in the morning." - -- devil@diablery.10A.com - --------------------------------------------------------------------
